Once in a village a pious man by name Murugan was living and doing his agricultural work without hindrance to anybody. One day after finishing his night dinner, he was sitting in front of his house and was thinking about God. At that time, a band of robbers were passing thro his house. . They wanted a man to carry their booted goods and told Murugan ”come with us.” So telling they led him off by hand. After the robbers making a robbery in another house, they put a load of things on Murugan’s head, and asked him to carry that.
At that time, suddenly the Police arrived and the robbers ran away. But Murugan with his load in head was arrested. He was kept in the lock-up for the night. Next day he was brought before the magistrate for trial. The villagers of Murugan learnt what happened and came to the court. They said to the magistrate, “Your honour, this man will never do robbery.” There upon the Magistrate asked Murugan to make his statement.
Murugan said, “Your honour, I was thinking about God and was sitting in front of my house in late night. By will of God a band of robbers passed thro my house. By will of God they dragged me with them. By the will of God they committed a robbery in a house and by the will of God they put the booty on my head and asked me to follow them. Then by the will of God the police came and catch me and kept me in the lock-up for the night. By will of God, this morning, I was brought before your honour.”
The magistrate realized that Murugan was a pious man and ordered his release. On his way to his village, Murugan said to his friends “By the will of God I have been released.” Throwing your whole responsibility to God like Murugan is not correct way. Since Murugan was an innocent man he was released.
But doing before one thing, we must judge the nature of the duty, and then only we have to accept it. Whether the work entrusted to us is connected to illegal way, we must oppose it boldly and then only God will definitely help us.
Hold fast that which is good.
