Once in a village a young man without getting any employment becomes a thief. One night, he went to a big Bungalow of a Land Lord. The Bungalow was surrounded by large area with lot of trees and from the entrance; it will take four furlongs to reach the Bungalow. The young thief however managed to get entry into the Bungalow. The Land Lord and his wife were in deep sleep. The thief searched for the jewels and for other costly things in the adjacent rooms. He could not get anything. In themeantime, the Owner got some sound and he alerted the securities in the bungalow.
The securities brought lighted torches and began to search for him in the vast area of the Garden. Without knowing what to do, the young thief throws his shirts and smeared his body with ashes and sat under a tree, pretending to be a Holy man. The owner and securities in a jeep searched all the area and could not find the thief. All they saw was a holy man covered with ashes, meditating under a tree.
The next day the news spread in the neighborhood that a great sage was staying in the Garden। People gathered there and saluted the young thief with offerings of fruits, flowers, and sweets. Many also including the landlord offered silver and copper coins. “How strange? The thief thought himself. “I am not a genuine holy man, and people show such devotion to me. I shall certainly become a Sadhu and become a true follower of God.”
From that day itself the young thief become a sadhu and was telling Vedanta stories and advising every body to follow correct path in their life। From his own life, it is a lesson for everybody that circumstances and surroundings will make a man to lead a pious and noble life। There is no doubt about it.
Good manners are made up of petty sacrifices।
